Asking for a sample Auto Bill of Sale can be one of the most vital pieces of data that you can find when trying to determine if an automobile has a claim. While the details of the document may not seem that important, in reality it will save you a lot of time and trouble down the road.
The first thing you should look for is a case number. This is the document that all of the background information, photos, and any other information is contained within. It will give you a good indication of how much of a good quality the Auto Bill of Sale was produced by the owner.
The case number will usually be found somewhere on the vehicle in a place where there would be an easier access for you to see it. In most cases, a vehicle’s title will have a case number that goes with it. In fact, some of the titles do not even have this number because it was removed during the title transfer.
After the case number is found, there should be an item containing the owner’s name with a small red X over it with a date and signature underneath. If you still cannot find this, or the date, then you should look again for this piece of information. You may need to contact the seller before contacting an attorney. Often times, the sellers’ attorney will have information of this case number in their files.
There should also be a “Creed” located on the left or middle part of the document. This is a little block that says “Billed to: *Name of Buyer.” You should look for this bit of information, because the seller will need to have this so they can show that the vehicle has been used in another transaction. It will be recorded as a sale in the “Dealer’s Book of Records”.
On the other side of the document you should see a checkbox that says “Driver’s License” which should be put there by the seller. If the seller did not include a license or permit with the auto, then it should be obtainable from the DMV office in your area. This should be put in just before the title of the vehicle.
The next section will contain information about the buyer’s personal information. For example, the buyer’s name, address, date of birth, license plate number, and insurance information.
Finally, the description should include the year, make, model, and serial number of the vehicle. If the seller’s description has not included any of these things, then it should be taken out. These are the types of things that will need to be found on the document. When taken into consideration, the sample Auto Bill of Sale will be very valuable for any type of claim in the future.
